Work by Ian Walton.
I have had the privilege of working with Ian from 1996 during 'The Year of The Artist, Northern Arts'. Measured in Shadows was a joint installation with Russell Mills (more of Russell later) in Tullie House House Museum Carlisle, and I was 'roped in' to assist. Like all true friendships we bump into each other on occasions. It could be working on an art installation or sharing a pint of Guinness in an Ambleside local.
What's it like working with artists? Demanding, 'You want what??? 'You've changed your mind again....not quite what you were thinking'
The final outcome is always one of pride, a sense of purpose and dare l say fun.
StillPoint has been involved in some very varied and challenging stuff over the years. Diane Steadman and Alex Jakob-Whitworth, from Eden-based award-winning A Dab Hand, provided workshops for primary school children based in the villages around the Pennines in Cumbria. They made some wonderfull creatures from wire frame and paper seen here in the photos that live in the area. Some atmospherics were 'requested'.
“The exhibition had an extra dimension, thanks to the lighting and sound effects provided by John Deakin, of Stillpoint Productions. His interpretation of the changing sounds and light of a day at Moor House added an extra element of drama to the exhibition, for which we are very grateful.”
Projecting moving clouds and a full moon as the lights faded to dusk was accompanied by the sounds of a curlew and frogs and the other creatures that live and come out at night. The Big Draw installation in Penrith was part of a Nationwide competition and we very proudly won a prize!
